Furthermore, he is the one person who focused his own personal energy on cultivating me and my work for world harvest.  The Off-Broadway production of <FONT SIZE="3" COLOR="#FFFFFF" FACE="Staccato222 BT" >"Waitin' 2 End Hell"</FONT> was directed by Woodie King, Jr.</div> <bR> <div> Let it be said of me... and may the heavens record... that of a truth... with regards to servitude to this thing that we so deeply love... this thing that possesses us and compels us to continue on, despite the incessant and seemingly insurmountable, interminable challenge to overcome improbable odds... the truth is that "Black Theatre" and "Black People" have had few to love them as much as Woodie King Jr., </div> <bR> <div> Woodie, my prayer is that together we will walk to the top of the mountain. I know what you are after and that your thirst won't be quenched until you raise the challis once again. As you glance up the side of the mountain, be certain that you will reach the top. Your wisdom, knowledge and understanding, your passion, your determination,  and your sincerity are your gifts to me. My spirit, energy, youthfulness, my faith, talents and abilities are yours to apply... yes, God still sits on the throne. </div> <bR> <div> Wood, we will rest here for a moment... and then, it will be time to begin our climb again.  I have not forgotten your words. You placed a bet on me... and I will cross the line. Parker</div> <bR> <div> The late Ossie Davis had this to say about Woodie King, Jr., "What we need more than anything is someone willing to forego stardom and celebrity and step behind the scenes and take care of business,  Woodie King Jr. is a role model in that regard for a lot of us.” In on March 25<FONT SIZE="1" COLOR="#FFFFFF" FACE="Arial" >th</FONT>, 2001, New Federal Theatre, founded by Woodie King, Jr., held it’s 30th Anniversary Gala. Here is what you should know about the Gala;  $150-$250 for individual seats, $500-$1,000 for the show followed by a dinner at Sardi's, and $5,000-$50,000 for sponsorships. But it involved some of the most prominent African-American theater artists in the world, all of whom lended a hand to help New Federal raise funds for a projected $1,000,000 endowment. Sidney Poitier served as advisor for the event; Debbie Allen and Avery Brooks hosted; and Denzel Washington, Ruby Dee, Phylicia Rashad, Jackee Harry, Samuel L. Jackson, and Laurence Fishburne were just some of the illustrious alums who'll paid tribute to New Federal with special performances and presentations. </div> <bR> <div> You wanna know why Woodie makes the ancestors smile? Check this out...in thirty years, New Federal has produced more than 175 plays, he has influenced the careers of  such playwrights as Laurence Holder, Ed Bullins, Amiri Baraka, and so many others. </div> <bR> <div> However, one of New Federal’s most notable efforts was the 1975-1976 run of Ntozake Shange's <I>for colored girls who have considered suicide...when the rainbow is enuf</I>. It was directed by Oz Scott. The show went on to became a co-production with the Public Theater, and then transferred to the Booth on Broadway. </div> <bR> <div> In Summary, Woodie King, Jr. is both loved and respected by many. I am honored to have been embraced by his magnificent and majestical, creative girth.
